Tiny Bubbles

Our biggest news today is that we witnessed Zoe Yerkezhan’s first unassisted steps! She took several steps in a row and had a big grin on her face as if she knew exactly what she was doing.

We took some bubbles to the baby house yesterday. Zoe watched them intently but never cracked a smile. We tried them again today with similar results. She eventually reached out for the bubbles but couldn’t quite figure out where they went after she touched them. The bubbles have yet to solicit a smile. Her new book, on the other hand, was a hit. We wandered into a book store last night and walked out with more Russian language children’s books than one probably needs. Oh well. After our baby house visit, we picked up Chris and headed to the circus. It made for an entertaining evening. The permanent “big top” venue was surprisingly small. The visiting troupe from Moscow was good; though they were no Cirque do Soleil.

There were no lions, tigers or bears. But the trained circus cats were quite impressive.Just wait ‘til we get one of these bubble gadgets. That will bring a smile to Zoe’s face! After the circus we went to Safran, a Middle Eastern restaurant near Chris’s hotel to commemorate her last night in Almaty. This is her first of three trips so she will certainly be back, though maybe not before we leave. We have truly enjoyed spending time with her this last week and will miss her company.

Way to go Zoe, and HOW VERY COOL that you witnessed her first steps. As a working mom, I was so afraid I would miss our son's first steps, but we didn't. :)
That's great--just wait until you get her home and she runs all over the place. :) Ya'll look pretty high energy though so that's good.

She looked pretty "mystified" by the bubbles-like, whoa, what are these things. She's not gonna smile until she figures it out.
She's a smart one.
:)

I am sure Chris was grateful to have met you guys. Ya'll are so nice and fun. You are the official American Almaty welcome wagon. :)

YEA! Walking!

And, bubbles are a bit perplexing. They are there and then they aren't. Very illusive.

The circus looked like fun too. Sorry that you are saying good-bye to Chris. I have been following both your blogs.
