Part of the day was spent just hanging around.
She loves playing airplane.
The day ended with giggles and hugs for the giant pink puppy.
Tonight we met up with Chris, a woman from New York adopting from Issyk, an hour’s drive from Almaty. She is staying at the Hotel Kazakhstan here in Almaty and is driven to Issyk every day (including Sundays!). We ate at the Guiness Pub just down the street from her hotel and had a wonderful time getting to know each other and swapping adoption stories. She is here until the middle of next week so we will surely meet up again.
On the half hour walk home, we marveled at how beautiful this city must be in the summer. We are definitely here during the least attractive season! Yet even during the gray, drab winter with uneven and iced over sidewalks, the tree lined boulevards, parks, green spaces and well-drained fountains offer a glimpse at what promises to come to life again within the next couple months. We only wish we could see it. Not that we want to still be here then! We’d rather summer came early this year.

We did experience an hour of Almaty! The city looks really beautiful, but as you said it must be much more fun in the summer.

Hey. Good to catch up and see your updates. Love, love, love the photos of Zoe.....the third one is particularly cute....so how exactly do you feel about an arranged marriage for your daughter say - 25 years down the road with a fellow Kazakh/Torontonian :-) How you describe her personality is Orin to a tee!!!
Hope you enjoyed dinner in the Guinness pub, we were there a few times......one particular night brings back lots of memories, a big group of adopting families met there and Kims daughter Darya and Orin both had exploding (and I mean exploding) diapers. Kim and I ended up leaving a lingering odour behind us!!
We spent April to June in Almaty and it was a beautiful time of year I must agree. It is a very pretty city with the wide avenues and trees everywhere (not to mention the mental drivers and the honking cars which is why we christened it Honkistan!!!) Maybe at some stage we can all share a bevvie when you are home and compare photos of Almaty in different seasons.

I am a lurker on your site and don't comment very often, but while reading your blog tonight I actually missed Almaty! We adopted from Karakastek (about 1 1/2 hours outside of Almaty) last year. We were in Almaty from April until June and it was GORGEOUS!! The weather was perfect, the flowers were pretty, it was very beautiful. We also ate ate Guiness pub alot, loved the pizza and that was a place you could actually get ice! Anyway just thought I would drop a line and tell you how beautiful Zoe was and tell you thanks for helping me remember what Kazakhstan is all about!!
